Before joining the Marion Comprehensive Case Management and Employment Program (CCMEP), funded by OhioMeansJobs Marion County and facilitated by Marion Goodwill Industries, Blake Yeager faced a challenge familiar to many young job seekers – finding an employer willing to give him a chance. Despite submitting countless applications, he received very few interviews and was often told his age was the reason he wasn’t being hired.
Blake first heard about Goodwill through another workforce program. Although he didn’t apply at the time, he eventually decided to take the opportunity – and he’s glad he did.
While the onboarding process seemed overwhelming at first, Blake says the Goodwill team made the transition much easier. From completing paperwork to obtaining work permits and finding the right worksite, he felt supported every step of the way.
“My job coach really listened to my requests when it came time to pick my worksite. Thanks to the people at Goodwill, it didn’t take long to get me into a job. I felt like I was the main priority where it mattered. I’m incredibly grateful that I was given this chance.”
Today, Blake is earning a paycheck, gaining valuable work experience, and staying productive throughout the summer. The program has also opened doors to new opportunities, including participating in driver’s education as he works toward greater independence.
For now, Blake is focused on maintaining his job and continuing to build a strong foundation for his future. He hopes to earn his driver’s license, work on project cars, and may even pursue college as he continues exploring his career goals.
Blake wants others to know that Goodwill provides more than employment opportunities – it provides guidance, encouragement, and people who genuinely want to help participants succeed.
“They are some of the most helpful and informative people you’ll ever have. You can ask questions, email if you need help, and they’ll explain things if you don’t understand.”
His advice to other young adults considering the program is simple:
“Take that leap of faith – you won’t regret it.”
