How Pounds for GOOD Works

Donation Collection Options

1. Mobile Donation Center

When appropriate and available, Goodwill may place a Mobile Donation Center at your location for the duration of your fundraiser. (A 16’ x 7’ enclosed trailer)

Most Popular
2. Donation Bins

Goodwill may deliver collection bins to your location. Your group collects donations over an agreed-upon period, and we return to pick them up.

3. Scheduled Donation Event

Goodwill may arrange a designated collection period—such as two to four hours—when donors can bring their items directly to our team at your location.

We can work with you to determine the donation collection option that works best for your fundraiser. If unsure of which option will work best for your organization, please contact us at [email protected].

FAQ’s

The length of your fundraiser depends on the donation collection option selected. Fundraisers using a Mobile Donation Center or Donation Bins may last up to four days. A Scheduled Donation Event, where Goodwill is onsite to collect donations during a designated time, typically lasts two to four hours.

If you select the Mobile Donation Center as your donation collection option, the trailer is approximately 7 feet by 16 feet. The requested parking area must be safe, level, accessible, and large enough for Goodwill to deliver, park, and pick up the trailer.

Complete the Pounds for GOOD Request Form on this page. Once submitted, a Goodwill representative will review your request and contact you to confirm eligibility, fundraiser details, donation collection options, equipment availability, required documentation, and final approval.

No. Submitting a request does not guarantee approval or availability. Requests are reviewed based on organization eligibility, equipment availability, requested dates, location suitability, and completion of required documentation.

Eligible groups may include schools, churches, nonprofit organizations, civic groups, athletic teams, booster groups, clubs, and other community organizations that can provide a completed W-9 and meet program requirements. Goodwill will review each request to confirm eligibility.

A completed W-9 is required so Goodwill has the correct taxpayer identification information for payment and year-end reporting purposes, when applicable.

Depending on the amount and type of payment made, Goodwill may be required to issue a year-end information return, such as a Form 1099. Please consult your tax advisor with questions about your organization’s tax reporting.

Once the fundraiser has been completed and the donated items have been weighed, we will request that a check be mailed to your organization during the next check cycle. Payment is generally issued within two to three weeks after the fundraiser is completed and the donations are processed.

The fundraiser payout is subject to change. Once your fundraiser is confirmed, we will let you know the current payout rate per pound. The typical payout is $0.10 per pound for approved items, but this amount is not guaranteed and may change.

Goodwill may limit the number of fundraisers an organization can hold each year based on program demand, equipment availability, service area, and program guidelines. Please submit a request, and a Goodwill representative will review availability and determine whether your fundraiser can be scheduled.

If you select the Mobile Donation Center as your donation collection option, the trailer must be placed on a safe, level, accessible surface with enough room for delivery and pickup. Examples may include an approved parking lot, driveway, or other paved area. The organization is responsible for obtaining permission from the property owner or authorized representative.

Yes. Depending on your selected donation collection option, we ask for a photo of the Mobile Donation Center parking location or the location where Donation Bins will be kept. This helps Goodwill confirm the space is safe and accessible.

Goodwill accepts many gently used household items, clothing, and other donations. However, some items cannot be accepted because of safety concerns, regulations, condition, or processing costs. These include:

  • Furniture or large appliances
  • Mattresses and box springs
  • Chemicals, pain, and hazardous materials
  • Food or trash
  • Tires and auto parts

Please review Goodwill’s donation guidelines before your fundraiser. Items that are not accepted will not be included in the final weight and will not count toward your organization’s payment.

The participating organization is responsible for promoting the fundraiser to its supporters and encouraging donations during the scheduled collection period. Goodwill may provide guidance or promotional materials when available.

A Goodwill representative will review your request and contact you regarding approval, scheduling, required documentation, placement instructions, and next steps. Please allow 24–48 business hours for us to review your request.

Because we are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, we may not donate money to a political candidate, a candidate’s campaign, a political party, or a PAC. The IRS expressly prohibits 501(c)(3) organizations from directly or indirectly participating or intervening in campaigns for elective public office.
