Sometimes, all it takes is an opportunity, a little encouragement, and the willingness to try something new to discover what you’re capable of achieving.
For Kara, participating in the WIOA program, funded by OhioMeansJobs Marion County and facilitated by Goodwill, helped her build confidence, develop valuable workplace skills, and take important steps toward her future.

When Kara first connected with Goodwill, she was still in high school and unsure of what she wanted to do after graduation. She was working on becoming more independent and confident but had limited opportunities to gain real-world work experience.
After learning about Goodwill’s programs through a family connection, Kara decided to explore the opportunities available to her.
What followed was an experience that helped her grow both personally and professionally.
“My experience participating in the Goodwill program has been amazing,” Kara shared. “I’ve had the opportunity to learn new things, meet different people, and gain experience that I know will help me in the future.”
Throughout her experience, Kara discovered the importance of hard work, dedication, and making a positive difference. Just as importantly, she found a supportive environment where she felt encouraged to step outside her comfort zone and try new things.
Today, Kara has graduated from high school and is attending college. She credits her experience with Goodwill for helping her become more comfortable, confident, and independent.
Her next goal? A career in healthcare.
Kara hopes to become an X-ray technician, combining her interest in healthcare with her desire to help others.
“I want to be able to help others when they need it and make a positive difference in their lives,” she explained.
Looking back, Kara wants others to understand that Goodwill is about much more than shopping and donating.
“There are many different programs, resources and people who are genuinely there to help others,” she shared. “I wholeheartedly believe they want to see everyone succeed.”
Kara’s journey is a reminder of the difference that opportunity, encouragement, and hands-on experience can make in helping someone discover their potential.
And for anyone who may be uncertain about taking that first step, Kara offers a simple message:
“You’ve got this. Take it one day at a time, and don’t be afraid to keep moving forward.”
Congratulations, Kara! We are proud to have been part of your journey and look forward to seeing all that you accomplish.
Building Lives That Work.
