Hannah participated in a youth program funded through OhioMeansJobs Marion County and facilitated by Marion Goodwill. She came to Goodwill’s CCMEP program at a pivotal moment in her life. As a high school student preparing for college, she faced uncertainty about her future. Growing up in a low-income household and as a first-generation college student, she felt unprepared to navigate adulthood, employment, and higher education. Although she had heard about Goodwill in high school, she later realized it was the place she could turn to for guidance and support.

From her very first interaction, Hannah’s experience was transformative. Staff made the process feel welcoming rather than intimidating, and her job coaches took the time to understand her goals and challenges. With their support, she secured employment that fit her needs and future aspirations.
What stood out most wasn’t just the help she received, but seeing others gain access to resources and support they may not have had otherwise. Coming from a background where asking for help wasn’t always an option, this gave her a strong sense of security and belonging.
Since joining the program, Hannah has gained valuable work experience, independence, and confidence. With support like monthly gas assistance and new opportunities, she is now balancing high school, college coursework, and employment – just one semester away from earning her associate degree while still in high school.
Looking ahead, Hannah plans to complete her associate degree in social work, continue to her bachelor’s, and become a licensed social worker. She hopes to work as a developmental specialist, helping young children get the support they need.
In her own words:
“Growing up with little support and not much money or opportunity, I didn’t always have someone to turn to. This program has shown me I’m not alone.”
Hannah’s journey shows how the right support can change a life – building confidence, creating opportunity, and opening doors to a brighter future. At Goodwill, this is why we do what we do – because Good Happens Here.
