Meet Brandon

After graduating from high school, Brandon found himself unemployed and uncertain about his next steps. Recognizing the need to take action, he decided to search for a job. With the support of his mom, Brandon connected with Opportunities for Ohioans with Disabilities, who referred him to Goodwill in June 2019. This was the beginning of a transformative journey for Brandon.

At first, Brandon felt nervous and unsure about the job search process. “When I first started, I wasn’t exactly sure what I was looking for,” he shared. “But the more I met with my job developer, the more comfortable I became with the process.” With her guidance, Brandon gradually built confidence, learning about the different types of work that suited his skills and interests.

Fast forward to today, Brandon has a steady job at Harbor Freight. He’s not only earning money but has also become really good at saving it. “I’ve received several raises over the past four years,” he said proudly. Brandon has learned new skills on the job, expanding his abilities and growing in his role.

Looking ahead, Brandon’s goal is simple: “I want to continue doing what I’m doing—helping people and making money.” He is truly happy in his work and enjoys what he does every day.

Reflecting on his growth, Brandon shared how much he’s changed since his first days at Goodwill. “When I first started, I was a very quiet person who didn’t interact much with others,” he admitted. “Now, I work a lot in customer service, and I’m growing as an individual.”

For Brandon, Goodwill has been an essential stepping stone. “It’s a great place to break out of your shell. They listen to what you have to say and work with you to make your goals a reality.” Today, Brandon is not only on track but thriving—proof that with the right support, determination, and growth mindset, anything is possible.  At Goodwill, Good Happens Here.
