SCSEP Program Provides Opportunity for Mark

Goodwill is committed to helping older adults gain the skills and support they need to achieve economic stability through the Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP). SCSEP is a federally funded, on-the-job training program that helps adults age 55 and older build new skills, gain work experience, and transition into unsubsidized employment while earning income.

Mark

When Mark first connected with Goodwill, he was unemployed, living in a homeless shelter, and relying on the bus for transportation. After losing his job and being unable to pay rent, Mark spent two months at the shelter before being referred to Goodwill’s SCSEP program by partners at Heart of Ohio Homeless Shelter.

Through SCSEP, Mark began work-based training in Goodwill’s Contract Services Department where he gained valuable skills, confidence, and a renewed sense of purpose in a supportive and positive environment. With Goodwill’s assistance, including supportive services to help cover transportation costs – Mark was able to regain stability, move out of the shelter, and secure his own apartment once again.

Mark now looks toward the future with clear goals: to obtain full-time employment, continue building his savings, maintain stable housing, and keep improving himself every day.

Follow the program and you will succeed. I am so thankful for the SCSEP program,” Mark shared.

Mark also wants others to know that Goodwill is “a company that cares about people and the communities they are in,” and he credits the supportive staff and positive atmosphere for helping him succeed. Good Happens Here.
